Wilma Jo Whittall Vanderburg, 86, of Kingston, Okla. passed away Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022 in Plano, Texas. She was born on November 26, 1935 in Tecumseh, Okla. to the late Haskell Charles Whittall and Christine Rhea Oakes Whittall.
Wilma lived her early childhood years in Wichita, Kan., before moving back to Tecumseh at the age of 7. Shortly thereafter her family moved to Shawnee, Okla. She was raised in Shawnee, where she graduated high school in 1954.
She married the love of her life, Bobby Gene Vanderburg, on September 20, 1953 in Shawnee. Gene served in the United States Army during the Korean War. During his service, Wilma worked at Sears Roebuck and Montgomery Ward in Shawnee. Upon her husband’s return from service, Wilma and Gene moved to Okmulgee, Oklahoma where Gene attended Okmulgee Tech.
After graduation, Wilma and her husband moved to Dallas where they lived the majority of their life, raising their family. Together, they owned and operated Vanderburg Drafting Supply. Wilma and Gene moved to Lake Texoma, where her and her family had numerous years together before retiring and spending the remaining years of her life on the lake.
Wilma was very active as the Children’s Director at the Northway Baptist Church in Dallas and has enjoyed serving her Lord in numerous positions during her fellowship in churches around the Lake Texoma area. She loved her family and so enjoyed spending time traveling with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by daughters: Carolyn Hughes and husband Mike of Emory, Texas, Janet Simmons and husband Ralph of Emory, Texas; son, Keith Vanderburg; four grandchildren: Zach Hughes, Blake Hughes, Chrystal Cattanach and Justin Vanderburg; three great-grandchildren: Wyatt Blake Hughes, Harper Eve Hughes and Drake Michael Hughes; brother, Robert Wesley Whittall of Kingston, Okla.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, Haskell C. Whittall and Christine R. Oakes Whittall, and her husband Bobby Gene Vanderburg.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022 at Watts Funeral Home, Madill, Okla. from 5-7 p.m.
Graveside Service and Interment will be Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022 at 1 p.m. at the Fairview Cemetery, Shawnee, Oklahoma. Rev. Randy Whittall will officiate the service. Pallbearers: Zachary Hughes, Blake Hughes, Mike Hughes, Ralph Simmons, Randy Whittall, Scott Whittall.
Services will be under the direction of Watts Funeral Home, Madill, Okla.
