Sharon Slate, 73, of Kingston, Okla., passed away at home on January 27, 2022. She was born February 10, 1948 in McAlester, Okla.
She and Leland were united in marriage November 24, 1967 in Garden City, Kan. following four years of Naval service resided in Guthrie, Okla., until 1979. They moved to Hugoton, Kan. until 1992 where Sharon attended nursing school and became an RN. They lived in Guymon, Okla. where she worked for five years as OR supervisor. They moved to Davis, Okla. in 1997 where she worked at Mercy Hospital Ardmore retiring in 2011. Shortly after they moved to Kingston, Okla. where they resided until her passing.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kingston, Oklahoma. She enjoyed church actives and loved her church family.
Sharon was a very passionate and caring person with her patients and family. She especially enjoyed the many cousins’ reunions over the years. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by both her parents Warren and Edna (Turnbull) Spinks of Guthrie, Oklahoma.
Survivors include her husband, Leland Slate of Kingston, Okla.; her sisters, Lou Greenhaw and husband Steve Greenhaw of Wesley Chapel, Fla. and Alice Clay of Oklahoma City, Okla.; her son, Leland Slate II and wife Tara Slate of Tishomingo, Okla. and daughter, Shannon Nienke of Mannsville, Okla.; her grandchildren, Megan Reilly and husband Edward Reilly of Mannsville, Okla., Alexis Slate of Durant, Okla., Jackson Nienke of St. Petersburg, Fla., Sara and Drew Slate of Garden City, Kan.; her great-grandchildren, Charlie Nienke, Emilia Reilly and Warren Reilly, of Mannsville, Okla.
There will be a come-and-go memorial Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Family Life Center, First Baptist Church in Kingston, Okla. for family and friends.
