Ophelia Camelia Cooper, 81, of Kingston, Okla., passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022, at her home in Kingston. She was born on February 26, 1940, in Pampa, Texas, to the late Clyde Cissell and Eunice Evans Cissell.
Ophelia was raised in Kingston where she attended school and later received her GED in Phoenix, Ariz. She married Kenneth Gene Cooper on October 18, 1957, in Gainesville, Texas and he preceded her in death on August 4, 2011.
Ophelia served two terms as City Mayor for the City of Kingston and on the City Council for more than 10 years. She worked for Digital Equipment as an Event Planner where she retired. Ophelia also served as chairman at KYCC for 15 years, a member of the Kingston Striper Festival committee, and the Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing Bunco once a month with her friends and her greatest love was her family and grandkids.
She is survived by children: Linda Cooper Brown of Fort Collins, Colo., Cathy Reynolds and husband Ron, Kingston, Okla.; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; siblings: Reba Walker of Durant, Okla., Cecelia Mizell of Kingston, Okla., Frances Gregory of Oklahoma City, Okla., David and Sherry Cissell of Kingston, Okla., Judy Edgar and husband Butch of Madill, Okla. and Dale Cissell of Kingston, Okla.
Ophelia was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Eunice Cissell; husband, Kenneth Gene Cooper; son, Gene M. Cooper; and brother, Wm “Dub” Cissell.
Service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Febr. 12, 2022 at Texoma Auxiliary Fire District Building in Kingston, Okla.
Services will be under the direction of Watts Funeral Home, Madill, Okla.
