Leon M. Mathis, 84, passed away on Friday, Jan. 14, 2022 in the comfort of his home in Milburn, Okla., surrounded by his loving family. Leon was born July 28, 1937 in Ravia, Okla. to ML (Babe) Mathis and Dinky M. (Sparks) Mathis-Yeaman.
He served our country in the United States Army. After two years in the Army, Leon went to work for JW Hunter at Sales Equipment in Oklahoma City where he met his wife, Karen Cobble. The two got married in Tuttle, Okla. on January 13, 1962. Later in 1969, he went to work for the State of Oklahoma in the LPG Department where he rose to Senior Inspector and Safety Code Officer until his retirement in 2013. Leon loved farming, raising cows and fixing his equipment. He loved taking his grandkids fishing on Blue River, which went through our land. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to so many who was deeply loved and will truly be missed.
Leon is preceded in death by his father, M.L. (Babe) Mathis; mother, Dinky Yeaman; one great-granddaughter.
Those he leaves to cherish his memories are his wife of 60 years, Karen Mathis; son, Cory L. Mathis of Tuttle; daughter, Dana L. Mathis of Kingston; granddaughter, Courtney Ward Mathis of Kingston; grandsons, Brandon Mathis and wife Jessica of Tuttle, Colten Weaver and wife Samantha of Milburn; great-grandchildren, Jaylee Ward of Kingston, Tracer Ward of Kingston, Bryson of Kingston, Peyton Mathis of Tuttle, Lincoln Mathis of Tuttle, Mackena Mathis of Tuttle, Leigha Weaver of Milburn; brothers, Larry Mathis of Miami, Clemore Mathis and wife Judy of Oklahoma City, Vernon Yeaman Jr., of Norman, Bobby Yeaman and wife Brenda of Norman, Michael Yeaman and wife Cathy of Norman; sisters, Carolyn Myers of Oklahoma City, Pauline and husband Tom of Lexington; Betty Yeaman of Oklahoma City, and Mary Vanderberg and husband TJ of Norman; and a host of other family and friends.
