Edwin Garry Glidewell passed away Sunday, December 25, 2022 at his home in Mannsville, Okla. at the age of 78 years old. He was best known as “Garry” to all who knew him. Garry was born December 17, 1944 in Plainview, Tx to Russell Glidewell and Opal (Simmons) Glidewell. He grew up in Edmonson, Texas, and graduated from Plainview High School.
Garry married Eunice Chaney on February 3, 1968, a union that lasted 54 years. He spent most of his working years as a welding contractor for the pipeline. The pipeline allowed him to travel to many places across the western United States. He was an excellent welder and always did his best at whatever he was working on.
Garry and his family moved to Oklahoma in 1975 where he continued his welding business and worked as a subcontractor at the refinery in Ardmore. He trained Border Collies to herd cattle and competed in competitions. Garry enjoyed riding horses, coon hunting, gardening, fishing, and he participated in treeing competitions with coonhounds. He loved working with animals and raised sheep for many years. Garry was a member of the Pipefitters Union at one time and served as a trustee on the city council for two years.
Garry was preceded in death by both parents; a brother, Doyle Glidewell; sisters, Neta Adams and Faustine Beyhymer.
He leaves behind to forever cherish his memory, wife, Eunice Glidewell of the home; sons, Nick Rae of Muskogee, Okla., Ross Rae of Tulsa, Okla., and Chan Glidewell of Ardmore, Okla.; sister, Leta Sullivan of Houston, Texas; Grandchildren, Duncan, Kaden, Karianne, Kenon, Kane, Koley, Brandi, Baylee, Chance, and Landry Lane; great-grandchildren, June, Charlotte, Cooper and Camille Rose.
Funeral services to honor and celebrate Garry’s life were held on Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, at the Minnie Hartwell Memorial Chapel at Hartwell Funeral Home in Tishomingo with Rev. Roger Hartwell officiating.
Funeral services are under the care and direction of Hartwell Funeral Home.
